Personalisation - Made in Leeds network - session 2

How can we do more to make sure that people in Leeds get the care and support that they need?

We don't pretend that this will be easy to achieve.  But we believe that a place to start is to bring together different groups of people who would like to see this happen.

This is the idea of our Personalisation - Made in Leeds network.  Our starting point - because you have to start somewhere - is the Personalisation agenda - also known as self-directed-support.  In particular, how can we:

• Make it easier for people in Leeds to access services - and pay for them with an Individual Budget that they have control over? 
• Encourage and support people to set up socially enterprising services that really meet people's needs?

For this to happen, we think we need different people, with a whole range of skills, involved in some way. We'd particularly welcome unusual suspects - so if you're someone who's interested in how we care for and support people in Leeds, but wouldn't usually get involved in things like this, then we'd love to meet with you.

The get-together is from 530pm until 8pm.  It'll be informal - the focus is on you meeting other people who are interested in making things happen.  We might get you to scribble some thoughts on a few big pieces of paper , but other than that, it's up to you. 

We'll have some tasty nibbles courtesy of Dock Street Market to keep you going.  Dock Street Market serve delicious food if you fancy something a bit more substantial.

In terms of practicalities, Dock Street Market is in the centre of Leeds, about ten minutes walk from the train station and bus station.  Dock Street runs between the Adelphi Pub and Brewery Wharf.  There is free on-street parking on and near Dock Street from 6pm, and plenty of buses go to Tetley Brewery (such as 2, 3, 12, 13). 

And just so you know who we are:  Gill Coupland is a director of Angels Housekeeping - a Leeds-based social enterprise which delivers domestic services and other support to older people in Leeds.  Rob Greenland runs The Social Business - supporting people to set up and run social businesses.  Together we run Social Business Brokers.  One of the things we do is run get-togethers like this, to try to make some interesting things happen.
